Pete has been learning about and working on wood engraving.   It has been on his mind for some years and he finally took a weekend class with Anne Desmet at Hot Bed Press in Salford.   Using holly wood from his garden he produced three prints that made up a table tennis player making a forehand shot.   He decide to leave the shape of the wood as a surrounding for the images.   Here is a picture of one of the plates.

Experimenting with finding the right paper to print on…

Latest experiment is using steel.   Steel sheet has a ‘tooth’ which makes the plate surface hold ink, giving a darker, textured background.   Lighter tones are achieved through burnishing or polishing places to give highlights.
